Il microfono TLM 102 a condensatore con diaframma largo definisce una nuova generazione di prodotti da studio firmati da Neumann. Nato espressamente per riprodurre la voce cantata, il parlato e tutte le applicazioni in ambito broadcast si propone come ideale sistema di ripresa anche dei suoni provenienti da strumenti particolarmente dinamici, dal sound aggressivo e generoso, come le percussioni, la batteria, gli strumenti a fiato e quelli amplificati. Dal punto di vista tecnico il TLM 102 è un microfono a condensatore con diaframma largo, con diagramma polare cardioide, direzionale, trasduttore a gradiente di pressione, di dimensioni compatte - inferiori rispetto al fratello TLM 103 - ma dalle classiche caratteristiche Neumann. La capacità di sopportare grandi pressioni sonore massime si accompagna a una leggera enfasi sopra i 6kHz e all'impiego di una tecnologia che evita l'impiego di trasformatori.
